"Shrewsbury Castle is made of..." Liverpool Off The Beaten Path Tip by margaretvn

Liverpool Off The Beaten Path: 80 reviews and 92 photos

Shrewsbury Castle is made of sandstone and it was the centre of Norman and medieval power in the region. It last saw action in the Civil War and was 'restored' by Thomas Telford in the 18th century. It was then that the romantic 'Laura's Tower' was built. The castle buildings were closed when we were there but thhe grounds are open and free and offer lovely views over the town and surrounding countryside.
