"Rising from the Ashes" Atlanta Things to Do Tip by littlesam1

Atlanta Things to Do: 511 reviews and 844 photos

Atlanta's history includes the burning of the city during the Civil War. This is depicted graphically in the movie Gone With The Wind. Atlanta prides itself in the fact that it rose like a Phoenix from the fires and is today one of the major metropolitan cities in the United States. Representing this theme is a beautiful statue in Five Points at the entrance to the Robert W. Woodruff Park. The statue is called Rising From The Ashes created by Gamba Quirino. The piece was originally created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rich's department store in 1967 and was located at Spring Street and Martin Luther Kind Boulevard. Rich's Department store no longer exists and is now a part of the Macy's chain. However the statue has been moved to its new location in the Woodruff Park where it stands on the Five Points Intersection.
