  Treasury of Athenians
by magor65

Throughout ancient times endless processions of worshippers arrived in Delphi hoping for favourable predictions concerning their future and leaving gifts and offerings. Different states built treasuries to shelter the wealth gathered in the course of time. One of such treasuries, the remains of which we can admire today, is the treasury of Athenians. It was built in the 5th century BC to commemorate the victory of Marathon.
Archeologists reconstructing it at the beginning of the 20th century made use of the inscriptions that had been carved on the stone blocks. By matching the fragments of the inscriptions together it was possible to reconstruct the original layout of the treasury.
