o fumeiro: "almost missed this, our best meal in Portugal" Restaurante Fumeiro Tip by l.swenson

Restaurante Fumeiro, Lisbon: 3 reviews and 6 photos

the best of Lisbon cuisine from the Biera Alta and Serra da Estrela regions- also a great selection of wines and ports ; not a tourist trap, a wonderful place that's easy to miss if you're not looking

Favorite Dish: Not a big meat eater, I was irreversibly entranced by the aroma and flavor from a vairety of smoked meats and cheeses that were presented to us as we were seated; To think we nearly missed this cozy little restaurant with a hearty traditional feel after stumbling onto it about a block above the typical touristy outlets.

We ordered an amazing goat dish (first time for me) declared the best he'd eaten by my husband who has traveled broadly and eaten goat on numerous occations. Ultimately, the most unusual and surprisingly tasty dish was mine...an unexpected combination of pork, clams, tomato and potatoes. The dish came highly rcommended by the waiter, Diamond, who did not lead us astray the entire evening...service was superb!

To drink, we avoided sweet wine in lieu of a superb, dry green and finished with an exceedingly mellow, vintage port; the perfect balance for an out of this world house specialty desert.

Many apologies for the lack of gastronmic vocabulary to do justice for this wonderful place.

After traveling from Porto to the Algarve and eating from a spectrum of establishments, we found this to be our favorite dining experience...a superb value, as well.

Bon apetite when you find this great place to eat in Lisbon.
