Kuressaare´s land mark is the Bishops Castle with a long history starting in the the 14th century. Among the medieval castles in the Baltic countries this has survived best.

Inside the castle is the Saaremaa Museum with its history and nature departments. There is also a cafe, kind of a gallery and a viewing platform. The entrance to the Castle is free but the museum cost a little fee.

During the summer mounth there are open air activities in the castle yard.
