Frankfurt am Main Transportation: 156 reviews and 170 photos
Frankfurt's main station is the Hauptbahnhof. It is infamous throughout Germany for the riff-raff that hang around outside, and probably the main reason that this safe and gentile town has such a bad reputation for criminality. Inside the station is fine, and well policed, but outside it looks a little rough, and makes most people feel uncomfortable. Best not get one of the cheap hotels near the station, and instead jump straight onto the metro and head somewhere nice, which is pretty much every where else in the city.
Frankfurt's station, like the airport, is one of the busiest in the world, and direct trains run from there to many major cities in Europe. For Germany Frankfurt is the central hub of the train network, and because of that you can reach any city in Germany in about four hours on the super fast ICE network, even Berlin. For international destinations you can be in Amsterdam or Berne in four hours, Paris in five, and even reach London in less than seven hours via the Channel Tunnel.
