The Vatican Museum consists of eight museums, five galleries and the Sistine Chapel which is the private chapel of the popes and named after Pope Sixtus IV who ordered it to be built. Michelangelo painted the ceiling from 1508 ? 1512. This is the largest work ever accomplished by a single artist. Open 8h45 am to 4h30 pm Monday to Friday. On Saturdays it is open from 8:45 am to 12:30pm.
Flash photography is not permitted in the Vatican museum and no photography of any
Kind is permitted in the Sistine Chapel. Please make sure that you are not wearing shorts, sleeveless tops or dresses or any other revealing clothing as you will not be allowed to enter the St Peter?s Basilica or the Vatican museums.
Even the staircase when you exit the museum is something to behold.
