The Pelikan Hotel, Virpazar, Lake Skadar: "A wonderful crazy place" Republic of Montenegro Hotel Tip by Kardrew

Republic of Montenegro Hotels: 25 reviews and 38 photos

We wanted to visit Lake Skadar (see travelogue page) & found references to the Pelikan on the internet

Struggling to find the village of Virpazar we were stopped buy a ?yokel? touting for trade. He turned out to be the 'Marketing Director' for the Pelikan Hotel & was amazed to find out we?d actually booked to stay there. The hotel was having some ?repairs? so we were put in a house right by the lakeside.

Unique Qualities: Don't come here if you like your accommodation grandiose. But if you like character & quirkiness this place is for you. It's very simple but clean. We were kept awake most of the night by 'quacking' frogs - being May they were breeding.

The Pelikan restaurant is a gem ? quirky or what! Stuffed with antiqities & with birds nesting inside. But apparently the ex-royalty eat here. The smoked carp is out of the lake was followed by the best fish soup in Montenegro.

We had breakfast on the lttle sun terrace surrounded by flowers and herbs. Virpazar seems like a village in a time wharp apart from the odd coach turning up to take a boat ride on the lake - the Pelikan hotel has its own boat.

Go there for a great experience.

Address: Zorka & Toman Zec - HOTEL "PELIKAN", Virpazar. MONTENEGRO
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Driving towards Podgorica from Budva direction, turn right (very small road across the level crossing of the railway line). Virpazar is on Lake Skadar lake edge. The Pelikan hotel is on your right immediately as you go into the village.
