"Sunny days on turtle island" State of Sabah Things to Do Tip by hennanights

State of Sabah Things to Do: 272 reviews and 407 photos

Spend the day on Selingaan Island (turtle island) which is about 8.1 hectares. Home to the Hawksbill (hunted for its shell) and Green turtles (Chelonia mydas). The island is a sanctuary where they can lay their eggs. This small island has a pristine beach that you can roll out your mat on and watch tiny crabs dance around your feet. Many take advantage of the reef to snorkel looking for brightly coloured fish. Others still did a spot of birdwatching. In land the island is covered in lush green plants that offer shade which is a welcome relief at times.
You can hire mats, snorkels, flippers and masks from the island.

Directions: Located just 40 kilometres off the coast near Sandakan
