Favorite thing: I'd advise anyone to spend time walking around with eyes wide open for the unusual and interesting, whether people or places. Cairo is full of quaint little alleyways, architectural treasures, colour, people of all kinds. Look at the people making things in traditional ways. These gems are a better reminder of your trip than stereotyped pictures of The Pyramids [click], The Citadel [click], Abu Simbel [click], a camel [click- unless it's the Wandering Camel].

Fondest memory: The little things. When we moved at the end of our first year, I missed the view from the sitting room window. There was a shop faced with old looking tiles, where an old man sat repairing carpets. It took a long time for me to decipher the sign on the shop. Five years later I was taken to a tailor's next to that very carpet repair shop So, click! and I keep my memory
