It is 85 metres high (6 metres shorter than the Duomo) and is covered in white, green and pink Tuscan marble. The views from the top are lovely - but there is no lift so you have to climb the 400+ stairs. The queues to do that can be very long.
The campanile was designed by Giotto in 1334 and completed in 1359 - 22 years after his death.
