Not too far from the Kraton lies a tight community of densely packed houses, batik galleries and the spoils of a watery palace named Tamansari. And within the grounds, you see a decadent pool where a Sultan's harem used to bathe under a watchful gaze, an underground mosque and an underground passageway that links to the palace.
Latest Update: Taman Sari sustained heavy damage in the recent earthquake. Personally, I don't think it's possible to go to the outer wall area - I've seen photos of collapsed walls and houses. The renovated area ( swimming pool) is only slightly damaged.
