Jag Mandir was built in 1620 and for a short time became the island palace of Prince Khurram who later became the Mughal emperor Sha Jahan. It was his place of refuge while he rebelled against his father, Emperor Jahangir. Maharana Karan Singh II initiated the building of Jag Mandir (or Lake Garden Palace) when he was extending and raising the level of the dam.
