Platanos Cafe is a laid back cafe bar on the edge of Platanos' small village square.
The cafe offers a handful of outdoor tables, sheltered from the sun by umbrellas, with views across the village square of the island's capital. There is also a large interior with dozens more tables.
I sat at an outside table on a quiet afternoon on my daytrip to Leros in May 2006. It seems that most of the island had retired for their early afternoon siesta, the shops around the square had closed and only the occasional moped zipping past broke the peaceful silence.
At a nearby table, a group of elderly local gentlemen were sitting and playing backgammon. They were also engaging in a water fight, which ultimately flooded their backgammon board and brought the game to an abrupt halt! This might not be the usual behaviour of elderly Greek men......but Leros is the island where Greece sent all of its lunatics in the past!
The drinks menu included a short cocktail menu, spirits, bottled beers, a variety of coffees and other hot beverages and soft drinks. You can also treat yourself to fruit, ice cream or one of the tempting sweet pastries on offer!
I just stopped off for a glass of Coca Cola with ice (Cost 1.50 Euros) while relaxing in the sun.
A nice relaxed cafe on the quiet village square of Platanos.
