"East Mebon" Angkor Wat Things to Do Tip by atufft
Angkor Wat Things to Do: 789 reviews and 1,693 photos
A thousand years ago, the waters of the East Baray would have lapped around the foundations of East Mebon, but now the Eastern Baray in which it was built is dried up. East Mebon was dedicated in 953 very close to the time of the dedication of Pre Rup. Both Temples are mostly laterite. Pre Rup includes more of the earlier use of brick, whereas East Mebon includes more sandstone, a material used heavily in later temples. The lintels over doorways are particularly awesome.
