Rabat's Medina is all there was before the French arrived in 1912; it lies between the sea and the river, with stone and white washed buildings. Daily life in the medina is busy however you will not see many tourists around... it's all about the locals! They are baking fresh bread, selling fruit and vegtables, cutting hair, creating woodworks... basically everything under the sun! It's a good first souk experience as the locals do not pester you or pressure you to buy as much as in other cities.
