"The Tower" Tower of London Tip by BluBluBlu

Tower of London, London: 523 reviews and 935 photos

I guess these days The Eye might be considered the iconic view of London, but to me it will always be the Tower of London. Well worth a whole day...if not several trips!

It was originally a simple timber and earth enclosure in the corner of the original east and south stone walls of the old Roman town of Londinium.

This enclosure was superseded by a huge structure of stone which in time came to be called The Great Tower and became as it is known today The White Tower. Since the first foundations were laid more than 900 years ago the castle has been constantly improved and extended, gradually evolving into the splendid castle, fortress, prison, palace and finally museum that it represents today.

There is tons of history attached to TOL, from conspiracy theories, to murder, to quite a few beheadings! A great day out!
