"Southwark Cathedral and the community" Southwark Cathedral Tip by Jenniflower
Southwark Cathedral, London: 38 reviews and 103 photos
Southwark Cathedral is the 'mother church' of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark.
Southwark Cathedral Society of Bellringers rings the bells regularly, echoing through the streets of the Borough community.
What is a shame is that this churches parish is quite small.
There are many churches throughout London (of the same diocese too) crying our for premises as they have outgrown theirs, and then here is a huge (and beautiful) Cathedral not used to its full potential for the true purpose it was built. To worship God.
It is used for many other events throughout the year - various celebrations, consecrations, seminars, exhibitions and ceremonies.
A very good program that they have is an outreach to school children of all different faiths. They hold workshops, trails and art classes... all kinds of kiddy-orientated classes.
I think it is a good idea for people of other faiths to experience another faith, and develop an understanding and respect for it.
Here they start with the kids, which is great I think :)
