"TheTheater an der Wien" Theater an der Wien Tip by margaretvn

Theater an der Wien, Vienna: 2 reviews and 1 photos

Go and see the Theater an der Wien.
This is the theatre were Beethoven's opera 'Fidelio' went in premiere in 1805. There is a plaque on the wall to honour it. I love the opera although it is not often performed these days.
The theatre was founded in 1801 by Emanuel Schikaneder.
There is a statue above the entrance which shows him playing the character of Papageno (from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute). Beethoven lived in this theatre for some time while he wrote the Fidelio.
