Despite the Tower in the name you actually go downstairs to visit the interesting part of this. The structure is from the 15th Century, and as well as being a fortification, it was also a prison.

The name of the Tower comes from the first prisoner to be incarcerated in here (he was called Dalibor). Story has it that after he was lowered into the dungeon (you can see the hole in my picture - it is covered with a glass type window in the floor), he was given a violin to play. Apparently he played so well that people would come to listen and would leave him food and drink rather than leave him to starve which happened to most other ?guests? of this dungeon. This story was even made into an opera entitled Dalibor.
