"Lighthouse Stilo" Krokowa Off The Beaten Path Tip by evaanna
Krokowa Off The Beaten Path: 4 reviews and 10 photos
Lighthouse Stilo is situated near Sasino, which is also worth visiting for the great restaurant (see my restaurant tips). The Lighthouse was built when the area belonged to Germany in 1904-1906. Its name may derive from the German word 'stille', meaning peace or silence.
But the life of the lighthouse keepers there has not always been peaceful. In 1972 the radio station located there played an important role in rescuing a Danish ship, which was sinking not far from it. It had an engine failure and had run aground in the shallow waters during a storm reaching force 12 on the Beaufort scale. Thanks to the lighthouse keepers, who helped organise the rescue operation using their radio, although the ship sank the crew had all been brought to safety. The masts of the sunken ship can apparently still be seen from the top of the lighthouse on a clear day.
I only took the picture of the interesting lighthouse door, the second photo was borrowed from the web.
