"Janet's Foss (near Malham)" Top 5 Page for this destination Yorkshire Dales National Park Things to Do Tip by Ben-UK

  Janet's Foss, Malham
by Ben-UK

A walk of just 1.25 miles (2km) from the village of Malham takes you through some very pleasant meadows by a stream to arrive at a waterfall called Janet?s Foss. Now Janet (known to some as Jennet) is the queen of the local fairies ? oh yes, a very important woman ? and she?s supposed to live in a cave behind the waterfall (I didn?t check if she was at home that day ?) ? anyway, it?s a delightful walk and can be done as part of a circular walk from Malham, taking in Janet?s Foss, Gordale Scar and Malham Cove (see separate tips).

Directions: From Malham village, cross the bridge over the stream and take the path immediately to your right -- follow the path along the stream then bear left with the path across a meadow and through a wood to the waterfall.
