"Bus to and from the airport" Bus Tips Tip by jungles

Bus Tips, Sri Lanka: 23 reviews and 20 photos

Bus 187 leaves frequently from the airport and goes as far as Fort Station in Colombo. To find it, as you exit the airport walk past all the men touting for taxis and tours, then turn left out the door and walk up to the end of the covered drive. The buses stop in front of the guard rail and small ticket booth. It could be either a full-sized bus or an air-conditioned minivan. The bus should cost Rs 23, while the minivan could be Rs 50, and if you want to put your bags in an extra seat instead of holding them you will be charged another Rs 50. The journey to Fort Station takes between 1hr. 20 min. and 1 hr. 45 min. depending on traffic. If you stay on past the Bastian Mawatha bus station, the next stop will drop you right in front of the train station.

To return to the airport from Fort, pick it up directly opposite Fort Station. The bus may go only to nearby Katunayake town and not the airport itself, in which case you should get off on Airport Rd. before it turns off into town, then follow the signs to the aiport on foot.
