House O'Hill Hotel: "Homely place to stay in great location" Scotland Hotel Tip by Flem2002

Just a few hundred metres from the Southern Upland Way walking route, the House O'Hill Hotel (which isn't on a hill, and isn't as grand as a hotel) is in the small hamlet of Bargrennan, about 8 miles out of Newton Stewart on the edge of the beautiful Galloway forest.
Under new ownership since November 2005, Rachel, Gerry and dog Nell run a homely, welcoming place with the comfort and amenities you need. There is a bar - well stocked with whisky and locals, and all rooms are en-suite. Gerry does the cooking, all home cooked down to earth grub!
Unique Qualities: It's on a quiet road so you get a good nights sleep, and nature is on the doorstep,so if you're a walker or cyclist, you won't need to take the car out of the car park. There's even a postbox opposite to post your postcards.
Address: Bargrennan, Newton Strewart, Wigtownshire, DG8 6RN
Price Comparison: about average
Directions: From Gretna Green, head West towards Stranraer for a couple of hours, at Newton Stewart follow the A714 towards Girvan. Bargrennan is signposted to the right after 8 miles, just after the road crosses the River Cree.
