"Millenium Bridge" London Millennium Footbridge Tip by Airpunk
London Millennium Footbridge, London: 56 reviews and 101 photos
The Millenium Bridge is a pedestrian bridge linking the business dominated area around St. Paul's cathedral with the southern bank where you will found cultural attractions like Tate Modern Gallery. It was opened in June of 2000, but closed in the same month after it was found to be vibrating. The problem (resonant structural response problems) and solved and the bridge was reopened in 2002 after a number of tests and modifications. I would like to recommend you to visit the bridge in the dark when it is - like all other Thames bridges in central London - illuminated.
The bridge was featured in a BBC documentary about bridge constructions where the problem and the redesign was explained.
Address: Thames Embankment, London
Directions: Blackfriars, Mansion House and even St. Paul's are close to the bridge on the northern bank. The closest staion on the southern bank is London Bridge, which will require some minutes of walking.
