The Neo-Classic part of Porta Ticinese was made by Luigi Cagnola between 1801 and 1814.

The works have been financed by public donations and the entablature and the eight Ionic columns are made of Baveno granite.

The gate was built in order to celebrate Napoleon's victory at Marengo.
