Or really the Sultanahmet Cami/mosque.Built between 1609 and 1616 by order of Sultan Ahmet I.Said to have been sited near the Hagia Sophia to demonstrate that Ottoman architects were just as good as their Christian predecessors.
Known more widely as the blue mosque for its' interior which is covered in blue ceramic tiles from Iznik ( ancient Nicaea) and paint.This was not its original colour,so this is being removed.So it doesn't seem very blue anymore.
Architect,Sedefhar Mehmet Aga built the basic cube structure 64m x 72m.
Main dome is 33m in diameter and 43m high.
Over 200 stained glass windows.
Remove shoes before entering so take a plastic bag with you to put them in.
Cannot enter during prayer times.
