Stoa Athanaton: "Rembetika" Athens Nightlife Tip by Ruai

Athens Nightlife: 208 reviews and 266 photos

Rembetika is the blues of Greece, popularised by the desperate refugees from Asia Minor in the 1920s. The Stoa Athanaton in the Athens Meat Market was one of the most popular central locations to listen to some. Have been told by a friend who knows more than I do that its not as 'authentic' as it was, but still seems pretty authentic to me!

Crowd is mainly Greek and everybody seems to have a good time. Show starts late (of course) and goes on till 5 or 6 (don't remember after a certain hour in the morning :-)
