"Difficulties to find cheap bus connections" Germany Transportation Tip by Freising

Germany Transportation: 321 reviews and 292 photos

A lot of people ask for cheap bus connections to travel within germany. After wondering why it seemed to be so difficult to find some, I just learned something (after over 30 years living in germany): There is a law that forbids regular passenger transportation on lines that are already served by another supplier (most of the time that would be the train-connection).

This law was meant to protect the "Deutsche Bahn" when it was still in public ownership. Now although the "DB" is a private company and the prices are raised constantly, the law still exists...

So if you can find a direct train connection between two towns in germany (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/), you will probably not find any cheaper bus connections.
