About 5 km south of Krokowa along the road to Wejherowo you will come across this obelisk commemorating a bloody battle that took place here on 17 September 1462. 2000 Polish troops led by Piotr Dunin defeated an army of over 2500 Teutonic Knights, over 1000 of whom were killed and 200 taken captive. The loss of life on the Polish side was 100 killed. This spectacular victory was a turning point in the 13-Year-War (1454 - 1466) , put an end to the military power of the Teutonic Order and greatly contributed to Pomerania' s reversal to Poland under the Torun Treaty in 1466. The obelisk was erected in 1962, when Poland celebrated a millennium of its status as a state.
