"5 May Bevrijdingsdag" Netherlands Local Custom Tip by a5floor

Netherlands Local Customs: 288 reviews and 290 photos

On 5 May we have 'Bevrijdingsdag'. During the 2nd World War the Netherlands was captured by the Germans. The Canadian, American and British soldiers rescued us from the Germans. 5 May is the day that we celebrate the fact that we are a 'free country'.

There is a foundation for this day. It is called 'Stichting 4 en 5 mei'. They have a website (www.4en5mei.nl), but it is only in Dutch. Haven't found an Eglish section at this site. The address of this foundation is:

Nationaal Comite 4 en 5 mei
Rapenburgerstraat 109
1011 VL Amsterdam
The Netherlands
