  Love those Federation verandahs
by iandsmith

About 130 of the town's buildings are registered with the National Trust and most of those date back to mid 19th century. This is yet another gold rush town where, after an initial small find around 500 people turned up in the first six weeks but, when better strikes were made the town swelled to a reputed 20,000 at one stage.
It was during these prosperous times that hotels such as this one were built with their gorgeous wrought iron verandahs.
