"Dedicate a wooden bench" Wimbledon Common Local Custom Tip by Jenniflower
Wimbledon Common Local Customs: 1 reviews and 2 photos
All over the Common there are wooden benches to rest on.
When you draw nearer you realise that they all have inscriptions on them, some etched into the wood, most on a brass plate. The plate is generally old, weathered and hard to read.
I enjoy reading the inscriptions as it gives an idea, a glimpse into history past :)
The bench in the photo is dedicated to TWO Wimbledon Windmill vice presidents, Howard Thorne and Stewart Nicol, who both died in 2001. THis bench is found just outside the Windmill Museum.
