  The Northern City Gate
by rubbersoul75

This is perfect little circular walled Medieval town, located between Siena and San Gimignano. Buit by the Sienese in the 1200?s, Monteriggioni was so famous in its day that it was mentioned by Dante in the ?Devine Comedy?. Today the town gets some coverage in the tour books though there?s not much to see to occupy more than a couple hours.
If you are driving in the area, it is worth the quick stop. Besides the small but beautiful village center, we enjoyed a nice stroll around the outside of the city walls. It?s a good way to see the impressive walls and 14 towers, along with the surrounding Tuscan country side and Olive Orchards.
