"Spend at least a day in Kamakura." Japan Things to Do Tip by worldkiwi

Kamakura is a small city south of Tokyo and not far from Yokohama. The city was once, for a brief time, the capital of Japan and has a wealth of shrines and temples. One of the main attractions is the Daibutsu - a giant Buddha, southeast of the main train station.
I visited this interesting town on a rainy Sunday and really enjoyed my time there. I visited the Daibutsu and then the nearby Hase-dera Temple. Hase-dera temple is a must see, with its beautiful hillside gardens and shrines and main temple. There is a cave shrine as well.
To get to Hase, take the Enoden line train from Kamakura JR Station. Kamakura is just over an hour away by train from Tokyo.
See my Kamakura day trip travelogue for more information and pictures about this charming place.
Finally, I should add that I would recommend you stay in Kamakura for a couple of days to truly enjoy all it has to offer.
