Capitol Building, Washington D.C.: 169 reviews and 429 photos

The United States Capitol is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the summer and closes at 3:30 in the winter. You can get a special tour if you contact your Congressman early enough to obtain a special ticket. These special tickets run out quickly. (He or she can also get you a special White House tour ticket). Passes can be obtained to view debates in the viewing galleries of the Senate or House of Representatives. Frequently, a Congressman will be making a speech to less than a packed house for the benefit of C-Span televison. Other highlights of the tour include the Rotunda, with the historical paintings, Statuary hall, the original Supreme Court chambers, and kids love taking the mini-subway to the adjoining Senate and House Office Buildings.
