If you have crossed the Szechenyi Chain Bridge and are heading for Buda Castle or Old Town you can take the funicular up the hill or walk the steps. The funicular was built already in 1870, and was the second in the world. It only takes two minutes to ascend with the funicular and it doesn?t cost much (the transportation cards are not valid here). The funicular is open from morning to evening every day, except some Mondays. According to my guidebook it is closed the first and third Monday of the month, but it was the forth Monday of the month when we were there and it was closed. I don?t know if the guidebook was wrong or if it was closed this particular Monday just because the military were practising in the square at the top. We had to take the stairs, but that was absolutely okay.
