Well...what can I say - another of those gorgeous English national parks, this one, rather than wild crags and hills has very characteristic plateaus which in August is full of blooming heather. The North York Moors is also full of villages to base yourself in if you spend more than a day here - something you might well end up doing. The only thing disturbing the peace is the presence of the Ministry of Defence and its peculiar buildings here and there and don't wander off just anywhere without paying attention to signs or you might find yourself prosecuted! But don't worry - most places are just restful little communities as long as you don't visit during the bank holidays when everyone is on their way to the coastal resorts of Scarborough and Whitby at the eastern end of the park. There is also a famous steam train, the NYMR, running here summertime - you might have seen it in the TV series "Heartbeat" which is filmed here, in the touristy village of Goathland where the sheep sleep in the bus shelter :)))

Directions: East of York.
