Much of Calgary's past was destroyed in the City's rapid late 20th century development - not unlike what happened in many other North American cities. One of the early political moves that Alberta's recently resigned premier , Ralph Klein, lend his weight to was an attempt to save some of Calgary's early 20th century legacy, which you can find here and there - Stephens Street, the Armory on the westend, and here at Centre Street Bridge. The bridge lays atop a series of graceful arches which span the Bow River immediately north of the Chinatown section of downtown, leading to northern sections of the City. Four grand towers grace the bridge entrances - two to the north and two to the south. The towers rise above the traffic below with old British lions growling from atop and Albertan buffalo peaking out from below.
