  Hotel Am Alten Strom

One of the nicer looking, good-size hotel that we saw while in Warnemunde was the "Hotel Am Alten Strom" which is located right on the inlet of Alten Strom. This family-owned hotel has been greeting guests for a century and today offers 74 nicely furnished and attractive rooms, apartments and "holiday apartments" for a perfect summer family getaway and at a reasonable price. All rooms and apartments (some with balconies) have en suite facilities, satellite TV, phone, hair dryers. Single and double rooms include breakfast in the price. The "holiday apartments" have small kitchens where meals can be fixed. However, perhaps guests would like to try either of the hotel's two attractive restaurants or its lobby bar. The Cafe Am Strom's interesting history alone makes it worth a visit in my estimation.

Since Warnemunde is considered the "resort" area of Rostock, it seems very natural that hotels of any size would offer amenities that are consistent with relaxation. This hotel offers spa facilities which surely tempt me to take advantage of them. The Wellness-Vital-Thelasso Center" in the hotel offers a nice range of treatments right on the premises and invigorating your health seems to be an important issue to Germans as it should be to all of us.

Unique Qualities: I love the location of this hotel...facing the "harbor" with great scenery, and very near the beach, the bahnhoff, the ferry terminal and port....what more could you want! Shops, sightseeing, restaurants are all at hand!

Prices seemed extremely reasonably to me and are figured by room and not per person. Rates change slightly by season. According to the hotel's website, currently prices for a double room run from 72 Euros in low season to 85 Euros in high season and include breakfast. Apartments run from 55 to 99 Euros, some with breakfast. Half and full board can also be added to the room rate. Many Europeans seem to love dogs. If you bring your pet, count on another 10 Euros per night (that is so much less expensive than a night at the kennel)!!

Directions: Located right on the Alten Strom (harbor/inlet), just over the foot bridge, and close to the train station.
