Unterseen is the original centre of Interlaken, it is actually all the area of Interlaken north of the river Aare - is the old part of the village, and you will still see real farmers there in the middle of the village. Unterseen is where most of the local people are living and the few hotels there will be less expensive than the ones in modern Interlaken. Unterseen has a lovely townsquare, a beautiful medieval church and many great hiking-paths, also along the river Aare and towards Neuhaus , at the Thunersee / Lake Thun.
