  Temple of Apollo
by sandysmith

We enjoyed a couple of hours visiting the temple of Apollo (bused from Altinkum) The temple was begun in the late 4th century AD, though never completed, and replaced the original temple destroyed by the Persians in 494 BC.

The temple was planned on a much grander scale than the original sanctuary and indeed it was the third largest religious structure in the ancient world so its definitely worth a visit. It was set on a seven-stepped platform measuring 3.5 meters high and in the centre of the east front there was a separate flight of fourteen steps.
