"The Bernina or Heidi Express" Switzerland Transportation Tip by sandysmith
Switzerland Transportation: 243 reviews and 256 photos
The Bernina or Heidi Express from Chur or Davos to Tirano in Italy via the Bernina Pass using the Rhaetian Railway is a wonderful way of seeing the scenery in this area of Switzerland. The very best part of the journey begins after Engadine as the train approaches the top of the Bernina Pass. Without cog wheels the train ascends an incline of 70/1000 towards the magnificent alpine scenery; glaciers, snow and heady peaks surround the 2253 metre (7400 ft) pass crossing. At Montobello the Morteratsch Glacier is seen and the majestic ice-crowned heads of Bernina group. From Tirano there are bus links to Lugano.
