"From the UK - fly and then..." Switzerland Transportation Tip by sandysmith

Switzerland Transportation: 241 reviews and 254 photos

From the UK - fly and then take the train. You can even check your luggage all the way through to your destination. Even if you don't do this the Swiss are really geared up for train travel and luggage. Us fortunate people near Liverpool can now get cheap easyjet flight to Geneva. If flying in you can get a transfer ticket to get you to and from your destination - real good value if travelling a long distance. (NOT AVAILABLE IN SWITZERLAND - BUY BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME). There are many types of rail tickets for tourists - swiss pass etc... but if you are staying for a lenght of time in one area check out the regional passes - these can save you a lot of dosh if you intend to ride all those funiculars and cable-cars. Prices for these can be checked and bought online at SBB Travel Online - Ticket Shop
The Bernese Oberland Regional Pass entitles you to either 3 days free and 4 days reduced travel over a period of 7 days or 5 days free and 10 days reduced travel over a period of 15 days.Tickets can be bought online and holders of transfer ticket or half price card get discounts too.

The following sites gives details of Jungfraubahn pass and rates of travel systems.

In Murren a holiday pass for Fr.130 (May–Nov only) buys unlimited journeys over six consecutive days on all transport on the Mürren side of the valley, including the buses between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg.
