The drive from Silverton to Ouray on the Million Dollar Highway is spectacular. We found the little town of Ouray, located in the San Juan mountains of southwest Colorado to be quite friendly and casual. The entire town is registered as a National Historic District. The 1968 film True Grit was filmed in Ouray County and some scenes in the town of Ouray.
The hotsprings pool was the reason we stopped here. We were not disappointed. Although it is smaller than the pool in Glenwood Springs we found it very pleasant. We had a fantastic view of the mountains while enjoying the "hot" part of the pool.
We used most of an afternoon to see the Box Springs Canyon. It was a wonderful place to cool off from the falls and enjoy a hike in the countryside. I definitely would recommend a stop in Ouray.
