The basilica of Sante Croce stands in the piazza of Sante Croce and is covered in the different coloured marble like the duomo but this was only done in the 19th cent paid for by the English man Sir Francis Sloane famed for Sloane square in London.
A statue to Dante stands outside the basilica, the square in the piazza is were in July the Florentines dress in medieval costume and hold a rugby match in honour of the citizens that first played the game in the 15th cent as a show of to difference Charles v of Anjou who was laying siege to Florence and was trying to starve the population out, whose men could see the game being played on the hills around Florence
there are great medieval house in the piazza as well
