Kenya Things to Do: 393 reviews and 566 photos

Tsavo National Park was established in 1948 and is the largest 0,812 square km of Kenya's National Parks. Drained by the Tsavo and Galana rivers the park is made up of semi-arid plains which are covered by dormant vegetation (until a light rain falls) and acacia and baobab trees. It is divided into two areas: Tsavo East, which is quite flat,
and Tsavo West, which is volcanic and dotted with springs and water holes. Tsavo?s wildlife includes elephants, lions, rhinoceroses, buffalo, hippopotamus, hartebeests, several types of antelope, and lots of species of birds. At Saltlick lodge there is an underground viewing area near a waterpool and it is a marvellous experience to go there in an evening and watch the elephants coming to drink - you at a their feet really and that gives you a totally different view of an elephant. I can remember these huge animals moving so quietly to the water.
