El Ratro is a sunday morning Market in Madrid, dating back already from the middle ages. Its situated in the Calle Ribera Cortidores. Its situated in a typical local working class area and it just breathes out exactly that atmosphere, finding the locals chatting atthe stands, the women doing their gossips in the streets or just talking about trivia while watching their children not behaving mishievious, and the senoir citizens sitting at the steps recalling the good old days. At the market you find all sorts ofartefacts from old furniture to second handed clothings upto cd's or posters. You walk along the Saint Cayetano church and thwe royal Tabacfactory. Its a good way to spend yiou sundaymorning in Madrid and sniff up the atmosphere. Afterwards you can have some tapas in the afternoon ariound the La Latina barrio.
