The Holyland model depicts ancient Jerusalem during the Golden Age - on the eve of the Great Revolt in 66 CE. The city then numbered some 70,000 inhabitants and streched over an area of 1,800 dunams - double the size of today's Old City. The scale of the Jerusalem model is 1:50. i.e. 1 meter in real terms is 2 centimeters in the model. It was built over a 4-year period, 1962-1966. Hebrew University Prof. Michael Avi-yona performed the task of recreation, which was largely based on the writings of Joseph Ben-Mattathias, the Mishna and the Talmud.
In 2006 it was relocated from Holy-Land Hotel to the Israel Museum.
Pics were taken in Holy-Land Hotel.
