It's a climb much more adventurous than Mt. Kinabalu, hence tougher. Not easily accessible, the journey started with a challenging drive on the logging road, which can be dusty as if you're speeding in the desert (only with the rainforest jungle setting) if it's dry weather but it will be muddy and fun (especially if you sit at the back of the 4WD vehicle) during the raining season. The 4WD journey is about 1 1/2hr along the logging road which will present to you some nice rainforest view. Then the climb started and you will be served with the rather undisturbed rainforest (I'm comparing it to Mt. Kinabalu but of course I think Maliau Basin is much better) setting. You will continue climbing to reach the Taman, which the guide called, a place for us to camp and stay a night. The peak of Trus Madi is different from Kinabalu simply because its height is less than 3000m hence the vegetation is still almost normal human height whereas in the Kinabalu peak, there's hardly any vegetation at all. Having said that, the view is still as spectacular and in non-raining season, you can catch a glimpse of Mt. Kinabalu at afar.
I am not lucky to see that as it was raining during my climb and we had to endure almost 5 hours of walking in the rain before we reach the base camp where spent the 2nd night. It's no-frill style (haha.... just an empty wooden house with 2 rooms) with a small stream next to it.
